Lulu's Garden

Dedicated in May 2014, the Garden lines the front entrance to the MCPK and serves as a living laboratory for the earth science and gardening instruction of Laura Marchese. Ana Lucia "Lulu" Haynes attended the MCPK from 2012-14 and the perennial garden was made possible by her family and a community of local donors and artisans. It reflects Lulu’s bright, colorful personality and students are free to walk upon the border-stones.

Lulu's Fund

Generous memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, inspired the creation of the MCPK's first dedicated endowment for need-based tuition assistance to sustain and expand the availability of scholarships. Lulu was known to her family and teachers as a “sweet, spunky” and generous spirit always willing to be helpful. The Fund extends that helping spirit to children and families and the family ensures that every donated dollar is used for aid.

 How Your Support Helps:

Your generous contribution will directly fund scholarships for families who need assistance covering school day and extended care costs.

Every donation helps provide:

  • Financial Support for families to access our programs.
  • Expanded Opportunities for children to continue their learning in a fun, safe, and engaging environment.
  • Peace of Mind for parents who need affordable, quality care for their children beyond school hours.

We are asking for your support in one of the following ways:

  • Make a Donation: No gift is too small. Your donation will directly support a child's school day or extended care scholarship.
  • Sponsor a Child: You can sponsor the full cost of tuition for the school day or extended care. For example, a donation of $500 covers a month of aftercare or $1,500 covers the full year (10 months) of aftercare for one student. $1,600 covers the cost of a month of our school day program and $16,000 covers a year of tuition.
  • Spread the Word: Share our campaign with your friends, family, and network. The more people who know about the cause, the more children we can support!

Learn More About the MCPK Scholarship Program

How Does the Scholarship Program Work?

The MCPK Scholarship Program was created to bridge the gap between what our lowest income families can afford to pay for tuition and what it actually costs to run the school. In some cases the amount is small, but in a growing number of cases the gap is as high as 95%. Comprised of generous donations from individuals and corporations, the Scholarship Program provides operating funds that make it possible for us to open our doors to all of Montclair’s children.

How Does the Scholarship Program Support Student Success?

Without the support of the MCPK Scholarship Program and the sliding scale tuition, many families would struggle to afford a quality preschool education for their children. Once children are enrolled at the MCPK, we are able to provide the full resources of the
school to the entire family, including extended care and enrichment programs, family workshops and food, clothing, toys and books provided by our community. Families receive support from our Family Services Director who provides consultation and
facilitates referrals for developmental, social-emotional and mental health services, housing and nutrition assistance and crisis intervention.

Why Give to the Scholarship Program?

Montclair is a diverse and inclusive community made up of people of every race, religion and socio-economic background. In order to ensure educational equity, every child in town must have access to a high-quality preschool education. By Kindergarten, the achievement gap is already evident between children with an early childhood educational foundation and children just starting school. According to a 2015 U.S. Department of Education report, "children who attend high-quality preschool programs are more likely to graduate from high school, go on to college, and succeed in their careers than those who have not attended high-quality preschool programs."

Thank you!
